What is Intellectual Property?

A guide is designed to help creators and studios understand what counts as intellectual property (IP) infringement and what is permitted for sale on Tebex.

What Is Intellectual Property (IP)?

Intellectual Property refers to original creations owned by another individual or organization. IP is typically protected by copyright, trademarks, or patents, which legally restrict others from using or selling the content without permission.

Examples of Common IP:

  • Brand names (e.g., McDonald’s, Nike)

  • Logos (e.g., the golden arches "M", or car badges)

  • Character models (e.g., Mario, owned by Nintendo)

  • Product designs (e.g., the silhouette of an Air Force 1 shoe)

Tebex enforces IP protections under clause 1.4 of our Acceptable Use Policy. This is also aligned with CFX’s terms for FiveM, which prohibit the use of unlicensed IP in-game.

What You Cannot Sell

Prohibited Content Includes:

  • Real-world brands, names, or logos (e.g., “Mercedes”, “McDonald’s”)

  • Slight variations or misspellings (e.g., “Nercedes” instead of Mercedes)

  • Replicated or imported character models or items from other games

  • Vehicles or products that mimic trademarked real-world items

❗ Changing a brand name slightly does not make it compliant. Intent matters.

What You Can Sell

You are welcome to sell original or lore-friendly content:

  • Custom designs that do not copy existing logos or likenesses

  • Generic or invented names and visual identities (e.g., a drink called Blue Cow instead of Red Bull)

  • Lore-inspired vehicles that do not resemble real-world models

Creativity is encouraged—as long as it respects IP laws.

IP & Vehicle Designs: A Common Pitfall

Vehicles are the most common source of IP violations on Tebex.

Guidelines:

  • Remove all badges, logos, and identifiers

  • Ensure vehicle models are generic or lore-friendly

  • Don’t rely on just removing logos—shape and design still matter

Test Your Vehicle:

Use Google Lens to identify matches to real-world products. If your vehicle shows up as a known brand or model (e.g., a BMW X5), it likely infringes on IP.

Use Lore-Friendly Alternatives:

Check out CFX’s approved vehicle list for inspiration. Many vehicles there are pre-approved and compliant.

Disclosure Requirements

All packages that include customizable or selectable items must list those items publicly in your store.

This means:

  • List vehicle or item names directly in the product description

  • Or provide images, links, or video previews that show the assets

  • Do not require buyers to join a server or submit personal details just to preview content

If your packages offer customers the ability to choose their content, those options must be disclosed before checkout.
